I am wondering how electrical circuits and systems are actually designed in the real world. Is there a formal process that goes into designing a circuit for a particular purpose? I have heard of electronic design automation for digital circuits, but how is this actually done? What about for analog circuits? Power systems? Thanks! Thanks. I did have two other questions. 1.) Ok, I know this is bad... I should look this up or something... I get that he tied a key to the top of the kite. Metal conducts electricity, but string does not. So how did he prove that lighting was just the product of electrical energy. I would think that he would have to connect it to a circuit to do some work in order to prove that it is electricity. I am an electrician and disagree with places like the Home Depot giving seminars on wiring. A little knowledge can be dangerous and I wonder how many people have burned down their houses or electrocuted themselves after taking one of these seminars. What do you think? Should they be allowed to give crash courses in something that should only be done by a cerified electrician who has spent YEARS learning his trade as opposed to a few hours on a Saturday afternoon?

I have never opened a cabinet with exposed wiring. Not only that but the molding is not secured to the external cabinet. The doors on the front also have a 1/4" or so gap when closed. Where can I buy brown or black household electrical cable?

A few years ago, US manufacturers standardized the color of the Romex sheathing on household electric cable. Now AWG 14 is white, 12 is yellow, and 10 is orange. We have a summer cottage that doesn't have hollow walls, so all the electric wiring is exposed. We need to replace some of the old, crumbling wiring - which is all black - but on the very dark wood walls, it would look terrible to have any of the new colors, particularly yellow or orange. Is there anywhere left to buy a simple household electrical cable, like a sheathed solid-core NM 12-2, with either brown or black sheathing? I'm getting a lot of suggestions regarding conduit, channel, wire mold, etc. FYI: there are places where the stringers are flush with the floor/ceiling and the cable has no place to run except along the wall, coming out around every exposed stud. As you can imagine, running any rigid enclosure along this surface would be a nightmare. More facts: 1. I'm not the owner, I'm the son, and if this requires something akin to conduit, or any bright color, it simply will never be done. 2. The current system includes great ideas like exposed cable where, if bumped, both the sheathing and insulator are prone to crack; mixed gauge wiring; and 14 AWG being run off 30 amp FUSES in a FUSE BOX. Licensed electricians have installed new exposed white Romex wiring in small parts of this cottage. A container for the sheathed wire simply is NOT going to happen. How well does drywall really protect modern wiring? Replacing insanely dangerous ancient wiring is the objective here; obtaining an acceptable color is the means to achieving that objective. 3. Despite the current wiring situation sounding like a pyrotechnic display in waiting, there are about a dozen of these cottages, all built in the 1910's, and none have ever had an electrical fire. Is there no more colored wire anywhere? Can I paint Romex?

My family has frequently had a problem with water dripping in from the window at the front of our house in the office. However, there is also an electrical outlet directly beneath the leaking window that also happens to have a lamp plugged into it. i have an electrical outlet that has a 5 plug adaptor plugged into it. The adaptor has two lights, one which says protected and the other says grounded. everything will be fine for a while and then all power to the unit will disapear and the lights on the adaptor go off. Last time this happened i replaced the outlet and everything was peachy keen until it recently failed again. The outlet still seems to work if the adaptor is pushed hard against it, but not to work regularly.
