can a license electrician from canada start his own electrian business in the states?

im an electrician from canada whose probably going to move to da states.i have 2 years of electrican experience,will it be recognize in the states. do i have to get contractor license to offer my services ... i dont wanna be an apprentice for 2 years because ive already been through that in canada ... pleaze help me
