How can I produce an electrical circuit with a pulsed current?

I need to create a simple electrical circuit that will be able to produce a pulsed current. I don't know if this is possible, but it would be great if there was a way to automatically stop and start the flow of the current to produce this pulsed effect. I hope someone understands what i mean. Can you help me? Thanks!
