Water possibly leaking from window to electrical outlet and lamp?

My family has frequently had a problem with water dripping in from the window at the front of our house in the office. However, there is also an electrical outlet directly beneath the leaking window that also happens to have a lamp plugged into it. It has been storming for a couple of hours now and my concern is that, if the window is leaking then water could fall down and get in thw electrical socket. Although the lamp is turned off at the moment, it is still plugged in. I dont know what to do. If water does get in the outlet, can it cause an electrical fire??? Pleas and thanks!
