Electrician training program and job placement?
I want to be an electrician. I am thinking about enrolling at Penn Foster University, but I am concerned about job placement. I asked the Penn Foster recuiter, what businesses hire your electrician graduates. The recruiter said that he was not allowed to name any of the businesses that hire their graduates. Additionally, he was not allowed to reveal what Foster's electrician graduate's get paid. The university has a job placement section via its website, but it is only available to enrolled students and alumni. I do not want to spend $898.00 for Penn Foster electrician training and discover that nobody will hire me. Any help would be appreciated.

How to Prepare for Testing Upon Entering Electrician Apprenticeship Program
Hi, I'm interested in entering the electrician field due to my extreme interest in renewable(alternative) energy and low-voltage and communication applications. My basic question is as follows: prior to taking the "placement/compass" test for consideration to be allowed into the program, what are some pointers or guide lines that someone could offer/suggest to help prepare me better for the test. I wouldn't want to walk into the test "blindly" and do poor therefore placing myself further down the list for acceptance into the program. I recently purchased "basic electricity" (prepared by the bureau of naval personel) and plan on getting back into calculus and trigonometry. I have been out of college for years and feel quite rusty in all directions. NEC 2008 Handbook VS NEC 2008 Code Book Question..?
I'm preparing to test for my 06 Low Voltage License. I have a 2005 book but it is in bad shape and I'm going to upgrade to the 2008 version. I just found a job posting online a few minutes ago for an industrial electrician. The education requirement just says technical training required, nothing in specific. But for credentials it says Industrial Electrician Trade Certification, Industrial Electrician Red Seal Certificate. i just ask a question stating, is it true or false that a voltage frequency?
inverter has a DC output voltage. The answer i received was, False. A Voltage Frequency inverter is use to control the frequency of the electricity. DC has no frequency. AC (Alternating Current) does. So I can better understand this is it true by stating that when using a Variable frequency drive that by adjusting the frequency in the AC input voltage this will raise or lower the torque in a DC motor. I'm graduating with a useless BA in English soon because I was foolish enough to post-pone real life, and because I thought I'd become a famous novelist at 23 (shows how much growing up young college kids need to do--I was an idiot, but there's plenty more where that came from). Now, instead of going to the grad school I've been accepted to in order to get another useless degree, I've woken up from my coma, I'm going to look for work, and I also need to learn a whole new skill set, one that's practical and marketable. For most of high school peers the only things that were of importance was popularity and high school athletics, but for me my primary concern was life after high school. My desire for an education was also reinforced by my desire to be an effective leader. Having a strong desire to be an effective leader, I volunteer at the County Courthouse and local community college. As a volunteer in both programs, I was able to mentor elementary and middle school age children about life decisions. Keen on being a positive influence, I participated in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Course (JROTC) program which educated my about military training and the unity of this country. The leadership, uniformity, and discipline of JROTC confirmed my desire to enlist in the United States military. Fortunately, my high school had a professional relationship with the local armed forces recruiting office, which administer the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test. With my ASVAB scores and willingness to serve our country on September 25, 2001, I enlisted in United States Navy. Serving in the Navy has allowed me to demonstrate my leadership experience while accepting additional responsibilities. As an Airman in the Line Division, I worked profusely to obtain my required qualifications, which were acquired within six months. After obtaining the required qualifications, I voluntarily assumed the Leading Airman/ Plane Captain position. This position allowed for increase leadership and responsibilities including the facilitating the training of 32 junior airmen. With the training provided to the Line Division the unit was successful in attaining a 98 percent combat sortie completion rate, over 2,900 mishap-free flight hours, and approximately 1,400 carrier-arrested landings during Operation Iraqi Freedom mission. As a Navy Reservist attending Construction Electrician School, I served as Platoon Commander for approximately 150 construction electricians. In this leadership position my responsibilities included the assisting with physical training activities, berthing, and uniform inspections. In addition to these duties it was my responsibility to ensure the safe movement of troops from berthing areas to the training facilities. My responsibilities extended to empowering the troops through coordinating study sessions and organizing volunteer activities to assist the local community. Given the opportunity to earn a commission as a Naval Officer, I will use my experience and education to become a directive, supportive, and participative leader. Within my abilities as a Naval Officer I would concentrate on promoting adaptive and useful changes among my colleagues and the enlisted community. Furthermore, as a Naval Officer my abilities would be employed to facilitate individual and collective efforts that are aligned with the Navy's core value…Honor, Courage, and Commitment.

I am moving to NC Raleigh and am a master electrician, with an unlimited electrical license in Oklahoma, I have passed the master block test several years ago...I am semiretired and want to do small electrical jobs in the Raleigh Durham area,,how strict is NC on licensing..I am thinking about just doing service work..they are not reciprocate l and I do not want to take another test...what are the consequences..

when testing, do engineers get to use calculators?
Do those testing for jobs as an engineer get to use calculators? The reason I ask is that I took a test for the DOT as an electrician and at the testing facility, everyone that was testing for just about everthing else, got to use a calculator. Being an electrician, I am quite used to this treatment, but it made me stop and think. You wouldn't want your banker working #'s without a calculator, nor just about any other profession, and in that regard I wouldn't want an electrician figuring out loads without one either. It seems that when testing, they are singled out to raise the bar and be smarter than anyone else. My question is, in this day and age why would they not be allowed to use a calculator when everyone else is allowed? Wouldn't you want to know if they could in a real world situation, come up with right answers in a proof positive way, or would you rather they just wing it ?

Electrifying my backpack how to do it and if it's not good?
OK, so kids at school are bugging me by getting into my backpack. Could I charge a capacitor to electrify the zipper so it gives them a nasty little shock? Could I do this? How much would it cost? Electrical Fire In The Wall. Electrician is coming, what should I look for?
We are renting this house. This morning my daughter was vacuuming and the outlet caught fire and began to burn. I threw all the breakers in the house. And unplugged everything from that particular outlet. When my hubby came home we called the landlord who said he was sending out an electrician that day (by the way he never came). And we began to see what rooms we could turn on in our house and mark the breakers because they were not marked. What we discovered was that the breaker that carried the outlet that caught fire also carried half the kitchen, den, diningroom, livingroom, bedroom, and laundry room. Now I don't know much about electricity but isn't that too much? What should I make sure that this electrician when he come tomorrow, does? I have to keep the breaker to all these rooms off because if I throw them on the fire starts back.

Since they deal with electricity, I think they would at least know the basics like Ohm's laws, because they work with circuits? Are they taught things like electromagnetism and the fundamentals of electricity? Or do they just know how to wire things together and have no idea what they are actually dealing with? Do you really need to be a certified electrician to work on a house's wiring if you want to sell it?
I want to rent small houses, gut em, remodel em, and sell em but I'm not gonna do it if i have to pay for other people to do the work for me. Do you really need to be a certified electrician to legally do the electrical work? I'd become a certified electrician but unfortunately you appranetly can't just go to college for it, you need on the job training and my job won't allow for that.
