What is better for becoming a Firefighter: A university degree or a skilled trade license?

I'm going to do an electrical apprenticeship and become a licensed electrician and then become a firefighter, but I want to be able to be promoted and move up the ranks in firefighting. So which is better to have for moving up the ranks of firefighting quicker? A university degree or a trade?
