Can the electrical supply for an oven/stove hood easilybe converted to and electrical outlet?

We are planning on placeing an over the stove microwave in our new house. When we had it done at our old house, we had an electrician run a new ele line to make a new outlet above the stove. Our new house has a finished basement so I dont' thing it would be as easy to just run a new line. I the line that goes to the current hood the same as what would go to an outlet? and if so, can it just be made over into a regular out let so the microwave can be plugged it? Thanks
