is it worth getting a degree in electrical technology or trying to get an appreticeship with an electrician?

Looking into an associates in electrical technology, the school says its an equivalent to an apprenticeship... I was just wondering if its worth the cash/ if company's honor the degree as an equivalent or not. Plus I've heard its hard to find somewhere to do an apprenticeship at to begin with. Any valid input would be appreciated.
