Do I need to call in an electrician for this?

Recently, I turned on my kitchen lights and immediately they went off. The circuit breaker was tripped and it did not reset itself, so I had to do it manually. It continues to do this whenever I turn on those lights. I figure I must have a short somewhere, is that the case? Can I fix this myself or do I need an electrician to repair it?
