Do all Electricians need to be in the union?

I am currently attending a vocational school to become an electrician. I want to start accumulating my apprenticeship hours, but don't want to take the union's electrician classes. I think it would be redundant considering I already took the 9 month program. Are there any companies/do you know of any companies that will offer apprenticeship hours without having to be part of the union?
