What does it take to become an electrical engineer?

I'm really interesting in the electrical industry, and I'm currently studying a BTEC national diploma in electrican engineering. However i want to continue my studying to degree level in a couple more years. The thing is, my maths GCSE grade is a D, and I've been told I will struggle at university. I recently took an internal maths test, as part of the course, and got a distinction in it... Do you think i will struggle at uni? Even if I reach my target grades of DDD at college?
