Quantum Computing and the Limits of the Efficiently Computable - 2011 Buhl Lecture

Scott Aaronson, an expert in the realm of computational complexity theory and the founder of ComplexityZoo.com online encyclopedia of computational complexity theory delivered Carnegie Mellon University's 2011 Buhl Lecture. In his lecture titled "Quantum Computing and the Limits of the Efficiently Computable," Aaronson discusses what quantum computers are, whether they can be built on a large scale, and what's known today about their capabilities and limitations. He goes beyond quantum computers to touch on speculative models of computation, including closed time-like curves and nonlinearities in the Schrodinger equation — an equation that describes how the quantum state of a physical system changes in time. An associate professor of electrical engineering and computer science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Aaronson's work on the subject of quantum computing has included limitations of quantum algorithms in the black-box model, the learnability of quantum states, and quantum versus classical proofs and advice. This is how I replace the ballast in a T8 fixture. You can convert a T12 to T8 as well. Fluorescent bulbs are very dangerous if you cut yourself with one so be careful. I am not an electrician, just a DIY person. Shut off the power so you don't electrocute yourself.

Because honestly, why would you count on that? It's patently absurd, clearly some sort of horrible plot contrivance. What the hell is a kendo sword anyways? Certainly nothing a grown man should be messing around with. The point is, those two end up as Prisoners in the Lost Universe, which looks a heck of a lot like Earth except that there is a kind of tree that grows dinner plates, and another kind that grows pods of orange berries. Just try to wrap your little head around that, and also how a film this derivative and cheap looking came out the same year as Return of the Jedi. One thing it did have in common with that film, however, is the presence of horrible little sidekicks. Return of the Jedi had the Ewoks, and Prisoners has Malachi, who makes the Ewoks look like Martini sipping, bon mot spewing embodiments of class and dignity. Malachi...Damn, now we're thinking about Malachi again. He's...He's just the worst. Ugh. He's also joined on the quest by the Green Man, who's called that because he's the same shade of blue as a Na'vi, a giant killer baby in a diaper, and a talking vulture. Grab your finest kendo sword and get ready to defend the interstate trophy with Prisoners of the Lost Universe!

Diggin History #59 - Metal detecting & bottle dump digging

5/10/10 - Went out metal detecting with Lookin4Seated & CladTheImpaler for a few hours. We did find some silver and some wheaties and lots of clad, I just found 3 wheats from the 40's and about $2 in clad. We called it quits and met up with D-Dub and decided to hit up the old bottle dump and try our hand at digging bottles. Our hunt was cut short because I had an electrician waiting at my apartment to try and find a broken wire in my wall which killed half of my apartments power. Anyways enjoy.

This is a video showing you how to strip a technics 1200/1210 back to its face plate. The reason for doing something like this is either to pain the face plate or to replace it, in either case stripping the turntable back to the face plate is required. Just as an experiment I phoned my local electronics repair shop to get a quote on how much he would charge to do this and he said 20 quid setup charge 40 quid to strip it and 60 quid to put it back together 120 QUID !!!!!!! Thats like 170 dollars I could buy a second hand turntable for that alternatively 85 quid to simply change the face plate thats like 120 dollars, so you are defiantly saving a bomb by doing this yourself. Its not massively difficult you just have to have your head screwed on and pay close attention to where all the bits went, if you think about it the main circuit board, the power circuit board, and the transformer are all joined so youre not going to put them back in the wrong place and you know where the tone arm goes and the pitch fader, and if you have ever switched on a technics turntable you will know where the power switch is, so you cant really go wrong. Information. When soldering on these turntables especially the older models leaded solder is normally used so keep your soldering tip clean after soldering, and mind your fingers because sometimes leaded solder can bubble and it spits and itll burn your fingers. Abandoned stable becomes off-grid, luxurious family dream home

When Carlos Alonso and his sister Camino (partners at Madrid architecture firm Ábaton) were looking for a country home for their extended family, they stumbled upon an abandoned stable in rural Extremadura, Spain and recognized it as a special place. High on a hill and far from city water or an electrical grid, the crumbling cow shed was far from the conventional image of luxury estate, but Carlos and Camino could envision a transformation. This part of the province of Cáceres (near the Portuguese border) has been home to generations of cattle ranchers and the Alonsos recognized the wisdom those who came before them. Building on the instinctual knowledge of the ranchers before them, the Alonsos preserved much of the old stable. The old watering trough became a fountain and interior patio where water now helps cool the home in summer. The hay loft above became bedrooms. The facade is still the original stone, though given the homes crumbling state, they were forced to add cement behind it. Without access to the grid, the Alonsos added photovoltaics and hydro power and worked to ensure the home wouldn't use much energy. The original position of the stable worked to their favor. The southern exposure allows for the sun to be the main source of heat during the winter. Extra of road lights with led lamps for low battery draining...also 12v socket . All cables are inside hot air shrink tubes. All the electrics are on the tray under seat. The live for the relays take it from the drive light and the yellow cable, use the air vent to drive the cable in and connect with the yellow. You need two relays, one for the 12v socket and one for the fog lights! The two relays going under the tray, there is enough space for them. Above the tray is that gray box for the fuses. You need one fuse for the relays, one for the socket, one for the upper fog lights and one for the bottom ones! Also you need a general fuse for all of this! You have to really careful because BMW have the can-bus system and if that system search anything then BMW electronics will cut off the power everywhere!!! Also can damage really expensive electronic equipment !!! I did this job on my own as I am qualified electrician. All the cables must to pass from left hand side under the fuel tang using cable ties and use the same way as BMW factory did! the lights is from HELLA MICRO DE. the lights swich i use is the one from bmw for fog lights, so i have two of those on the bike now. Searching for the vanity sink and cabinet............................... home centers in Japan...beware of the toddatron. Yea. Moved in but still brushing my teeth in the kitchen sink. So I need a vanity sink and cabinet. Never mind paint and something to cover up the bare sheet rock ceiling in the bathroom changing area. When that's done then it will be a real nice entrance to the unit bath. The Japanese bath culture has really inspired me. I want a cool bathroom and for cheap! Japanese home centers have a vibe almost exactly like America but they are a little different and a lot better. In the states they open and put everyone out of business then they streamline and your stuck with their selection. Here the home center really puts meaning to the word itself. Now the focus at the Japanese home center is on tools, parts, gardening and lumber. However the mammoth ones are so big that they resemble a mini mall under one roof all about building and home goods. Free truck rentals for up to one hour yes FREE! That really helped me out since I do not have a car. I used it every weekend for a month. Contractor clothing, big professional tools and equipment, incredible hardware sections, tatami mat making, carpets hemmed as you wait, curtain alterations, pet store with pets and grooming, a cafeteria featuring fast foods and ramen, tire shop, automotive section, and even small furniture. In Malagón in central Spain, a small company is testing out a shocking new form of oil extraction. The idea is to shock the olives with an electrical pulse before squeezing them. The brief pulses of a strong electrical field enlarge the pores in the cellular membranes, simplifying the extraction of oil. Arturo Portugal told us: "The electric pulses, generated by this machine, are directed to this electric box where they pass through the olive paste, pumped through the pipes." The result is more oil from the same amount of raw material. What is more, punching open the pores of the fruit with an electric pulse makes it simpler to get the best oil from unripe olives. The owner of Aceites Malagón, Aniceto Gómez said: "To ensure the best quality of oil, it's important to extract it without heating. This is my attempt at building my own ring light using parts I had laying around. Total cost of build = £0! Actual estimated cost if buying parts £50 Parts list: Sheet of wood to make the ring - use something thick enough (such as conti-board) so the fixing screws do not protrude through the other side and potentially pierce the mains wire - this could obviously be dangerous. Estimated cost £10 Surface-mounting lamp holders x 8 /10 / 12 - depending on your diameter and personal choice. Estimated cost per holder £2 In hind-sight I think smaller is better. - Ignore this comment, I have just build another smaller (18 inch diameter) ring light and it is too small - the effect is poor and the ring can not be seen in the eyes. the size I have here in this video is about right. Wire - suitably rated to carry sufficient current to your chosen wattage of bulbs. _ I am not qualified to advise you on this, but I would guess the thicker the better. Estimated cost £6-7 per 10m A plug. Estimated cost £1.50 An RCD socket (if you need to ask what this is, you probably shouldn't be attempting this project). A note on bulbs: Don't forget about the heat that normal bulbs produce. Redneck Meter Panel with MCB's and an RCD.

A makeshift, but careful attention paid to during assembly of wiring a meter panel with 2 power outlets and a 4A breaker for lights and a 10A breaker for power as well, with an RCD and a 15A plug top fitted. Disclaimer: If in doubt, do not play with electricity and seek advise of an electrician. This is to merely a means to make use of a meter I recently aquired and to monitor electicity usage at times.. At the end, you'll see a modified insect zapper that used a circular UV lamp, which is not cheap and hard to obtain, it now uses normal 2ft UV Blue lamps :). Decca Records chose the nuns after a worldwide search for the best female Gregorian chant performers. The nuns of the Abbaye de Notre-Dame de l'Annonciation shone above 70 convents across the globe. The nuns can now call Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Amy Winehouse, U2 and convent-educated Lady GaGa herself - label-mates. The nuns are part of an ancient order, dating back to the 6th century. Sisters continue the tradition of talking with any visitors, even family, through a wooden grille to avoid intrusion from the outside world.
