When I turn 18, can i jump right into taking a job as an electrician's apprentice?

I am currently a senior and taking some college classes for an assoc. degree to be an electrician. After I turn 18 can I find a job to work with a skilled electrician and begin working my way up, or are there other requirements I must meet before working as an apprentice? Please help, the more info the better!
