Is a loose electrical outlet (the plug falls out of outlet) dangerous or just a nuisance?

I live in an apartment. Management tells me to "spread the prongs apart and the electrical plug will stay in the outlet". That really does not work well. I make do by using extension strips and a "box" that adds to the number of plug-ins to the outlet. How important is it to have the outlet replaced?
